WHAT IS YOUR COMPLAINT?

Name of mass media invention promoter advertised in:

I.S.C. (Invention Submission Corp.)

Invention promotion services offered to be performed:

Contacting companies including manufacturers, marketers, distributors, retailers and sales reps with

invention with the help of Intromark Incorp.

Explanation of complaint between customer and invention promoter:

I.S.C. Reps states to me that there is no invention company like I.S.C., that they are the largest and

most experienced in the business to make my invention successful, tricking me believing in them because

of their very clever verbal techniques.

They also stated to me if I signed up for the stage 3 service kit, that would include above mentioned

promotion services plus tradeshow, magazine and internet exposure to make my invention successful. This

is the most expensive service package.

I strongly feel that I.S.C. was only interested in taking my money and had no intentions of making me

or any other customers invention successful.

This company is a large company who is very clever in getting around the law in taking peoples money

with no intention of making money for people. They used very sophisticated techniques in gaining your

trust so time will pass you by and when 24 months are up, they would simply reply we tried our best. This

company is not only incompetent in trying to make your invention successful; they had no intentions of

making your idea or invention making any money. I signed the original contract with I.S.C. on Oct. 10,

1998 and I’m out $13,097.46 and the only thing I have to show for it is a big pile of papers.

Explanation of complaint between customer and invention promoter:

I had enlisted the help of ISC to help get my invention patented and marketed at the cost of $10,195.

What ISC did was direct me to a patent lawyer at an additional cost of $1,150 to get my patents. As far as

marketing goes, I was supposed to have my invention displayed at the trade show with myself there, and a

virtual drawing depicting how <Blank> works. This was never done. Many other things that were promised

to me were never done. It seems that the only thing I received for my money was a book with my name on

it and a drawing which I made myself.

Obtain a patent, create promotional materials, get in touch with and promote product to MANY

by exclaiming over and over “What a great invention” and “was a sure thing”.

Paid $9,250.00 directly to ISC Plus the cost to obtain patent. All we got in return for this large amount

of money was one small pamphlet and a bound book with invention information. We saw a small notice

posted on their internet site for a short period.

We were not represented as they promised. We realize now, in hind sight, that we actually got very

little for the large amount of monies paid to this company. They cheated us and used our trust in them to

inflate our hopes of success. They had us sign papers “as formality” on standard forms while they were

telling us “this looks like a sure thing.” And “can’t miss with this”, “I really believe you’re going to make a

lot of money on this idea.” We were very naïve and got taken!

I am dissatisfied with ISC services because I filled out forms for my patent at the beginning, to also

add my son’s name on the patent as the second inventor which is not on my original patent that I received.

I now acknowledge that during ISC’s marketing process for my patent, their efforts were unsuccessful

and poor because ISC sent information of my product to companies not in my patents field not having any

interest therefore very much limiting and lowering its success rate.

My representatives at ISC expressed a lot of enthusiasm and that my product was a good one and will

work through ISC’s efforts.

ISC’s representatives also asked me (Emma Davis), did I know any company interest in marketing my

product and never really kept a good open communication with me to let me know how the product was

doing.

WHAT IS YOUR COMPLAINT?

Name of mass media invention promoter advertised in:

<Unknown>

Invention promotion services offered to be performed:

Invention Submission

Explanation of complaint between customer and invention promoter:

We took an invention idea to Invention Submission in Birmingham, AL. Contract dated 1-26-98,

Problems we had were:

1) Invention classified wrong, the companies we contacted (took upon ISC) produce household items

not automotive items.

2) The companies (on the attached lists) were from their database and we contacted them; these

companies did not acknowledge doing business with or hearing of ISC. The numbers were

obtained from the Thomas Register which lists products, and phone # of companies.

3) Finally, after several phone calls, the invention was re-classified or so we thought. Again we made

phone calls and no acknowledgement of ISC.

4) We feel the whole scam was just to keep getting our money for a service we were not getting.

We heard about Neustel Law Offices and he other problems that ISC has had and we feel we were

taken and then we wrote our letter of termination. We sent a copy to universal Finance. We were advised to

do this by a attorney

Our other letter regarding our refund has been ignored.

We feel we didn’t get the service we were paying for. We did receive one company’s name, we were

advised not to do business with them (by ISC). After reading their letter (we got a copy in October ’98) and

all their rules, we decided not to deal with them. After all the names we submitted to ISC & if they

contacted the names on their lists, why would there be only one letter of interest? This is another reason we

don’t believe they did their job.

We feel we are entitled to our money back because they did not perform the service we were

paying for.

Universal Finance continues to call and send letters threatening to ruin our credit by reporting the

$10,693.90 balance. We will not pay them any more money and as of 3/01 credit reports, they have not

done this.We are sending this whole packet of information to the United States Patent & Trademark Office

(USPTO) office of Enrolment & Discipline in Arlington, VA.

WHAT IS YOUR COMPLAINT?

Name of mass media invention promoter advertised in:

Invention Submission Corporation (ISC) as seen on TV

Invention promotion services offered to be performed:

For a fee, to assist in submitting our product & idea to industry, help in obtaining appetent and negotiate

with manufacturers for a sale or license agreement.

Explanation of complaint between customer and invention promoter:

From Dec. 18, 1996 to Sept. 30, 2000, we paid a total sum of $9,093.07 to ISC and Universal Finance.

We have proof to substantiate this amount. And to date these people have done absolutely nothing to help

us get our idea on the market, but in fact hindered us (see IPEX below). We received many patronizing

letters from ISC but no evidence of help with manufacturers and other promises as outlined in their

contract. In 1998 ISC invited us to set up a booth at the ISC IPEX convention. We did at our own expense

(travel, hotel, etc.) and were aghast to see ISC invited the general public as well as mass media, who

videotaped a close up of our invention. Also we were NOT assigned a booth in the ‘Manufacturers Only”

private room. The CEO of ISC, Martin Berger was there standing near this room so we approached him and

complained not only about non-plus services but also why we were not allowed a booth in the private room.

He said prior to the show, ISC Company sent out a list of manufacturers name to his customers so that we

could contact them to set up an appointment to visit our booth inside that room. When we told him we did

NOT receive any such list he apologized and blamed his Customer Service Manager, Lisa Sweeny. He

instructed a staff member at the show to look up on their computer. She told us that they overlooked

sending us the list but would mail it out after the show. At this point after noting all the do nothing attempts

to help us, we told Mr. Berger we wanted out of his contracts (ISC and Universal Finance). He said to us,

“My lawyers have you people wrapped up tight in a contract which you can not so easily get out of”. I well

needless to say realized the hopelessness of this situation and that we had been scammed. This was

confirmed when we received a last letter dated August 23, 2000 from their patent attorneys Kaardel &

Associates, which informed of us a balance of $2,966.30 left on our loan for a US Patent Application and

that if we wanted to “revive” the application we had to pay another $505 fee. At that point, with a balance

of $2,966.30 left on our loan, we told Universal Finance that we would pay no more, for all the above

reasons. We haven’t heard from ISC or Universal since. However, just this year we were shocked to find

they had damaged our credit report with an unfulfilled debt reported of $4,100 (3 major credit bureaus) WE

WANT THIS REMOVED IMMEDIATELY WITH CONFIRMATION TO US AND DEMAND

REIMBURSMENT.

I, Sarah B. Rondell had an agreement with ISC. I was told , and led to believe that everything I was

promised would happen even before the issue of my patent. I now understand that unless you actually have

the US patent, no one will speak to you, by this I mean the manufacturers.

I was also told that my patent invention would be viewed at tradeshows with only a prototype of my

invention. This was also a lie.

ISC also claimed that they would market the product, get it to manufacturers and that the manufacturer

would get it to the stores and HSC / QVC. Instead I receive letters every once in a while telling me that no

one had shown any interest. I was fooled into believing ISC. As a result, I gave ISC about $12,000 but no

contract or licensing with any manufacturers was accomplished. I lost all of my savings on a promise.

Explanation of complaint between customer and invention promoter:

My son, Nathaniel Chaput, was hoping to secure a patent for one of his idea’s. We met and

spoke to a rep of ISC, (Invention Submission Corporation) and decided to pay to have a patent search

done.

Once the patent search was completed, we returned to discuss the results of the research with the rep of

ISC. We were told that a patent didn’t exist for Nathan’s idea. However, this couldn’t be any further from

the truth. Based on the patent research, presented in the book, (put together by lSC) a patent for an item

closely resembling Nathan’s idea does in fact already exist. And this is continued by a letter written to us

by Attorney Campbell. This information should have been disclosed to us, so that we could make an

informed decision, but it wasn’t. Instead we were led to believe that no patent resembling Nathan’s idea

existed, and that a patent could be obtained for Nathan’s idea Based on the information interpreted by the

representatives of ISC to us, we decided to proceed with the project. We paid to apply for an application

and to have the item marketed.

Had we been correctly and appropriately informed of all the findings of the research, favorable and

unfavorable, we would have never proceeded for the request of patent. And furthermore, would never have

had the item marketed.

Submitted

lists to me about alleged companies that they supposedly sent my info to. When I gave them name/contact

info of companies I knew were relevant to my items, I was ignored. I did not partake in their “tradeshow”

yet was not returned any monies that allegedly were to be allotted out of my payment toward it. I stopped

their “work” on my items and was not returned any monies since no patent application was finalized or

submitted, nor did I request any more work on their end. The final straw that led to this decision was

calling to talk to a person being told they no longer work there, yet getting a letter dated after the phone call

but with their signature and name on it.

WHAT IS YOUR COMPLAINT?

Name of mass media invention promoter advertised in:

ISC & Universal Finance Company

Invention promotion services offered to be performed:

Patent search, patentability recommendation and assistance with manufacture.

Explanation of complaint between customer and invention promoter:

On 2/11/04, I entered into a contract with ISC to perform a patent search and patentability

recommendation. I was told that it would cost $975.00 but I could pay it in installments of $250.00. I gave

them a check for $250.00. In April 2004, I was notified that the search was complete and that they highly

recommend that I go forward with a patent and copyrights which they could assist me with in obtaining but

I had to pay the remainder of the $975 first. I gave them another check for $250 at which time they told that

they would present my invention to manufacturers if I paid them another $10,000 dollars. That was when a

red flag went off and I began to feel like was conned. Next I received a bill from a Finance company for a

loan I did not enter into. I feel I should not pay the balance.

Invention promotion services offered to be performed:

Explanation of complaint between customer and invention promoter:

Jack Armstrong from ISC told us I had to have this market report that would come in bound book to

present to companies. He also said that no companies would look at my idea unless I had this research

report done. He said they wouldn’t take my idea seriously. We feel he mislead us to charge us $925.00 to

have this book made. Now he says, since the report came back positive to pursue my idea would cost from

$8,490 to $14,040 for them to present my idea to companies. He also told me it would cost that much just

to patent my idea if a lawyer did it. I feel like I was misled.

WHAT IS YOUR COMPLAINT?

Name of mass media invention promoter advertised in:

Invention promotion services offered to be performed:

To submit invention to industry such as manufacturers marketers. To help patent and advertise invention.

Explanation of complaint between customer and invention promoter:

I was under the impression that for my $10,000 that my invention would be submitted to manufacturers and

advertised at trade shows. I was at least expecting a prototype. I do not to this day know what

manufacturers, if any my invention was submitted to. All I got for my ten thousand dollars was a patent

worth $500. However, if my product was licensed the company ISC wanted 20% of the royalties. I

couldn’t understand why something as simple as a <Blank> was not picked up by a manufacturer since it

cost pennies to make it. ISC claimed that they had a data bank of over 10,000 companies. I feel that ISC

only wanted my money, and did the least that they had to for it. I feel that their advertisements on TV are

very misleading, and a rip off. They need to be put out of business. I ended contract in 1999.

WHAT IS YOUR COMPLAINT?

Name of mass media invention promoter advertised in:

Invention Submission Corporation

Invention promotion services offered to be performed:

They were to send my invention idea to hundreds of companies so that one might market it.

Explanation of complaint between customer and invention promoter:

In ’98, I signed a contract with ISC. Then in 2000, I received a patent on my invention. I paid out over

$10,000 to them. My complaint is that they kept sending me lists of companies they were supposedly

sending a brochure of my invention to. ISC had told me that in theses brochures were comment cards that

would state either “No, I’m not interested or “Yes” I am interested in the product, and that if any company

responded back I would be notified. Well, not once did any company respond. So, I called ISC

“numerous” times telling them to send me some kind of proof that they are even sending brochures out.

Well, they never did!! One employee there even lied to me and said they sent something to me, but they

never did. I have just recently seen on the internet that ISC has been sued before and have given refunds

for the last couple of years. I have been trying to figure out how to get my $ back like all of those other

people because I feel that they haven’t done what they say they are doing. I regret paying $10,000!! Have

I been scammed and what can I do to try and get a refund?

Facilitate my invention (which did receive a patent, Patent# US6818127) to be marketed and prototype

Explanation of complaint between customer and invention promoter:

I entered into a contract with ISC in 2000, (Mar 2002 Patent App. Date) received a patent (most of which

was problematic in that Kaardal dropped me just before my patent was in final review) 2004 I asked

immediately what they (ISC) would do to market, develop and otherwise facilitate the process. I received

<Unknown> explanations of all the clients and companies that they (ISC) had supposedly contacted, and

the trade shows that they had done. I kept attempting to contact them in 2004-05 and was notified by mail

that Kaardal had retired and that Leonard & Proehl would now handle my account. It is a fact that they

scam people, and do little or nothing for $13,000 they charge in various stages to make you believe that if

you don’t hurry and pay, you will lose your opportunity forever. I called Leonard & Proehl to ask what

they would do to help me since Kaardal & ISC were not. And, it was critical to move forward since I now

had gotten the patent. They said that they could do nothing.

Explanation of complaint between customer and invention promoter:

First, they told me the time to receive my patent should take 2-3 years. It actually took 5+ years. They

waited 1.5 years to call me saying I needed to sign the patent app (June ‘03). I received my patent in May

’04. Second, I signed up for the optional invention show. They have two rooms, one for ideas not patented

and one for patented products. They called me asking if I wanted to put my non-patented idea in the show,

or wait until it was patented. I said wait. I found out in 2003 it was entered into the non-patented room.

Third, I have still not been notified my product has been patented. They were to resend out my idea to all

their companies in their database. They have yet to do this. Fourth, I have not heard from any company in

their database. The only time I ever heard from ISC, was if I needed to sign something.

Patent search 695.00, for 9,500.00. They will process patent application. For next 2 years they would

Explanation of complaint between customer and invention promoter:

First of their services was a press release to describe the product, to be published in some form of

newspaper or magazine. I did not receive any proof this ever happened. Next was to produce a color photo

and description to send to possible manufacturers. I was unhappy with the photo, but was told it would

take time to change and should move on. Excited to move on, I approved it. This photo would be sent to

75 – 80 companies. They claimed to know all the right manufacturers for my product. I received a list of

said companies. I then contacted several of them only to find one to be a logging company, another made

particle board and another who made building materials. None of which would be my idea of possible

candidates. Yet they claimed to know what they were doing, at my expense. After 2 years and no luck,

ISC informed me they were done pursuing the licensing of my idea. All said and done, my cost was

10,195.00 for a patent.

be done later on again depending on the research report. When he sent my list of fees I was very

disappointed. He could have told me from the beginning. Even though Mr. Davison discounted the fees

they were very similar to other companies I had called. When I told Stephen that Mr. Davison contribute

was a lot less than expected, he told me that it’s the most Mr. Davison would do or seen him do in the years

Explanation of complaint between customer and invention promoter:

On June 24, 2003, after 1 year of negotiations, I (David Prokop) signed a licensing contract with Homax

Products, Inc. of Bellingham, WA. The contract gave Homax exclusive rights to market and use 2 of my

patented products (patent numbers # D486,591 and D443,937) fencepost protectors. A royalty rate of 4%

of product sales minus returns or a minimum royalty of $25,000 per year. On March 16, 2004, I contacted

Homax to request a quarterly payment of the minimum yearly royalty payment. On June 7, 2004, I

received a letter from Frank Chmelik (Homax’s lawyer) that Homax was terminating the contract and

would not pay any royalty payments. In March 2005, I contacted the American Arbitration Association to

mediate the disputed contract. On May 5, 2005, after a hearing, the AAA arbitrator awarded to me a

payment of $25,000 plus expenses from Homax Products, Inc. Since that time, Homax has refused to pay

the judgment and I am forced to take additional legal action to recover the AAA judgment. During the

hearing a Homax representative stated, “they have used this contract many times with several inventors.” I

feel Homax has “cheated and used for their own profit” many inventors without due compensation for their

intellectual property. Homax is using the strategy to increase profits by exploiting independent inventors to

bear the cost of Homax research and development for new products. I feel this is unfair and in violation of

Federal Laws including the American Inventors Protection Act of 1999.

enthusiastic at this point). After signing papers and agreeing to invest over 900.00, I later learned from

another source that there was a class action lawsuit filed against these types of companies for misleading

people and giving them false hope. This information is also on the Federal Trade Commission’s website.

If I had been told that without having a patent there would be no use in my pursuing a portfolio in which I

can do nothing with. Nobody has 900.00 to throw away and these companies need to have integrity and

morals.

US Mail

Invention promotion services offered to be performed:

Obtain a market for patented technologies and obtain a licensing arraignment

Explanation of complaint between customer and invention promoter:

Failure of MMG to provide an approved “Prospectus”, also called a Media Kit. Upon checking with a local

inventors’ group, it was disclosed that MMG did not comply with either the Kansas Law which required

them to enter into the words of the House Bill 2792, supplement to the Kansas Consumers Protection Act,

of the contract, “Agreement” signed into Kansas Law on July 1, 1990 and in addition, also omission of The

American Inventors’ Protection Act of 1999. The omitted disclosures would have resulted in not entering

into an Agreement with MMG. This invention promotion company, operating in Kansas, has no excuse for

ignoring the requirements of the supplement to the Kansas Consumers Protection Act, nor can they ignore

the requirements of the Federal Law, The American Inventors’ Protection Act of 1999, and are operating in

a deceptive manner.

Invention promotion services offered to be performed:

Invention/Idea Promotion

Explanation of complaint between customer and invention promoter:

The company (Invention Submission Corp./Universal Payment Corp./Universal Finance Co.)

misrepresented their services. They did not market my product like they said they would and they did not

disclose the names and addresses of the companies they sent my invention information to. They told me a

patent search was not necessary, but said they did a patent search. I never received proof of a patent search.

The company provided me with a computer-generated book of outdated information alleging that my

product was marketable. They made me think my product was marketable, but when I changed my mind

and asked to cancel my contract because the results were going no where and <Blank>, Mr. David Schultz

told me it was impossible to cancel. Mr. Schultz pretended like his company, Invention Submission Corp.

was not affiliated with the finance company, Universal Payment Corp./Universal Finance Co. Mr. Schultz

advised me to ask for <Blank>, but did not tell the finance company that he had advised me to do that.

During my dissatisfaction with Invention Submission Corp./Universal Payment Corp./Universal Finance

Co., I spoke with Mr. David Schultz and Mr. Phil Penella regarding my complaints on several occasions.

This company has been <Unknown> of its clients. This information can be found on the ftc.gov website.
